The Charming Actress Sadhana Shivdasani

The Indian film industry has been blessed with some of the greatest talents ever in the world- be it actors, actresses, film makers or technicians. One of the amazing yesteryear beauties of Hindi film industry, who charmed her audiences and became popular for her fringe is Sadhana Shivdasani. She has given some memorable performances and made her presence felt despite strong competition from her contemporaries. She has said, Nutan is her role model in acting and that inspiration might have reflected in her acting also. Sadhana Shivdasani was born into a family of film lovers in September 2, 1941. Actress Babita, mother of Karishma and Kareena Kapoor, is her cousin.

Sadhana Shivdasani started acting in plays during her college days. Her first silver screen appearance was through the first Sindhi film Abana in 1960. She was spotted by the film maker Subodh Mukherjee and was asked to act in his film Love In Shimla with newcomer Joy Mukherjee, his son. The film was directed by a debutant director, R K Nayar, who later on became Sadhana's husband. It was R K Nayyar who asked Sadhana to have a fringe which became her trademark in the coming years.

She continued acting in films such as Parakh, Hum Dono, EK musafir EK Hasina in the 60s and these films projected her as the leading actress of that era. In addition to acting in romantic movies, Sadhana also acted in horror films. Woh Kaun Thi?, Saaya and Anita were some her popular thrillers which added another golden feather to the cap. Her scintillating and captivating performances in the film Aarzoo, Mere Mehboob, Inteqaam and Ek Phool Do Maali furthered her already successful career. She was nominated for the Filmfare Best Actress category in '64 and '65 for the films Who Kaun Thi? and Waqt respectively.

She had directed and acted in Geeta Mera Naam, released in 1974. After her marriage with R K Nayyar, she decided to quit acting. Sadhana-Nayyar couple did not have any children. Her association with films was not easily cut off. After some years, when both of them founded a production company, she was seen to be actively participating in film making. She declined all the offers for acting in films as those roles were supporting characters.

During her successful acting career, she has acted with some of the big names on Bollywood. Dev Anand, Shammi Kapoor, Raj Kapoor, Sunil Dutt and Rajendra Kumar were some of the leading actors of those times, with whom she worked. Some of her romantic films and suspense thrillers are considered to be classics in the film industry. She is definitely an actress who acts with finesse and grace and has created a unique place in the industry.
